Michael swears, “It is my best Nifft yet!

Afire with lilting verse, acrawl with grotesqueries!”

Science Fiction Chronicle Oct-Nov 2000 calls it “the best one yet!” Michael Shea brings us an exciting new adventure of his wandering thief, Nifft the Lean, and it’s the best one yet. The city of Hagia is one of the most prosperous in the world, thanks entirely to a deal made generations past with a gigantic and powerful spider god.

Unfortunately for the current residents, the terms of the agreement are about to expire, and the spider god may well claim the entire population as his prize. Nifft the Lean shows up in Hagia during this crisis, as does a mysterious woman leading a team of unusual characters. She makes her living solving other people’s problems, but this problem might be too big for even her skills, unless of course she teams up with the resourceful thief.

It’s a rollicking good fantasy adventure of a sort and style that I don’t run into nearly as much as I’d like, and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time from the first page to the last.
